🐰 How Heat Affects Rabbits in Malaysia
🐰 How Heat Affects Rabbits in Malaysia
Malaysia’s hot and humid weather can be challenging for rabbits.
Unlike humans, rabbits cannot sweat and mainly cool themselves through their ears. Excessive heat may cause discomfort, stress, dehydration, reduced appetite, and in serious cases, heatstroke.
Signs your rabbit may be overheating:
• Fast or heavy breathing
• Less active than usual
• Reduced appetite or water intake
• Warm ears and body
• Stretching on cool surfaces
• Wet chin or damp mouth area from excessive salivation
How to help rabbits stay cool:
✅ Good ventilation or air-conditioned environment
✅ Fresh, clean cool water at all times
✅ Add a few ice cubes to the water bowl or bottle during hot weather
✅ Cooling mats or wrapped frozen bottles
✅ Avoid direct sunlight and poor airflow
✅ Avoid blowing warm room air from the ceiling onto rabbits — hot circulating air does not help reduce body temperature
✅ Regular grooming, especially during shedding
In Malaysia’s climate, heat management is an important part of responsible rabbit care.

Tanda arnab terlalu panas:
• Pernafasan laju atau berat
• Kurang aktif
• Selera makan atau minum berkurang
• Telinga dan badan terasa panas
• Baring memanjang di permukaan sejuk
• Dagu atau kawasan mulut basah akibat air liur berlebihan
Cara membantu arnab kekal sejuk:
✅ Pengudaraan baik atau persekitaran berhawa dingin
✅ Air bersih, segar dan sejuk sepanjang masa
✅ Tambah beberapa ketul ais ketika cuaca panas
✅ Grooming berkala terutama musim shedding
